
Born in Chapala, Mexico, Natalia Cuevas started early her career as a still photographer on film sets for feature films. Having lived in her native Jalisco, London, and Barcelona, Natalia decided to settle back in Mexico City and start her formal studies in photography at the well known Escuela Activa de Fotografía where she earned her Photography degree. It was around 2007 when she discovered her new passion for the art and craft of Cinematography. Natalia moved on to work on film and commercial sets as camera assistant and later on as camera operator in dozens of projects.
Her creative and artistic curiosity only became bigger as she decided to travel to New York and study cinematography at the New York Film Academy. Knowing her place in the industry, she went on to write, direct and act as her own Cinematographer in various short films. She has become a very active and passionate Cinematographer and Camera Operator and has been part of TV series like QUEEN OF THE SOUTH and RUNNER for USA and FOX Networks and for EMMY winner SR AVILA for HBO as Second Unit DP and Camera Operator. As a full time cinematographer now, Natalia works both on the commercial and feature film world.
In 2017 Natalia worked as the Cinematographer of the award winning documentary CHAVELA that has been screened in various festivals including HOT DOCS in Toronto, AFI Docs and the Berlinale. Natalia is an active member of the Latin-American female association of Cinematographers APERTURA.
Her latest feature film RICOCHET has been part of the main competition at various festivals amongst them, the MORELIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, ROME FILM FESTIVAL, SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, and the 2021 VILMOS SIGMOND CINEMATOGRAPHY FESTIVAL as a nominee for best cinematography.
